IT IS ALL ABOUT THE LIGHT
– as only light brings glass to life.
The interplay of light, colour and texture is something that you can only find in glass, I find it intriguing and love holding a delicate sheet of hand-made coloured glass in my hands and holding it up to the light to see what secrets it will reveal. It often elicits a sense of wonder. I love to experiment and using historical glass techniques I work to create both traditionally based pieces as well as contemporary pieces through cutting, painting, applying texture and even hitting with a hammer! The work is influenced by the way in which shards of light light and dark pigments are defined by prints, paintwork, cuts and angles. I draw inspiration from history, as well as from contemporary artists who are pushing the conventional of glass imagery.
An important aspect of my work involves recycling old and damaged glass panels. I dismantle them and I either create entirely new designs around the basic design or using hand picked pieces that ‘speak to me’ I incorporate them into a new work resulting in unique product that blends the old with the new. This process not only preserves the historical narrative embedded within each fragment, but also allows the weaving of new stories giving these valuable materials a second life.
I aim to celebrate both their heritage and their potential for transformation.
